The
Planning Service is responsible for developing, and implementing, Government planning policies and development plans in Northern Ireland. The Agency carries out a range of activities, which promote the Government's key themes of sustainable development and creating a better environment. Planning Service Headquarters is based in Belfast and deals with strategic planning issues. Divisional Planning Offices are responsible for operational issues, within particular local government districts, such as development control and enforcement and for preparing development plans.
Local Authority Building Control (LABC) service is a publicly accountable service, set up to check plans and inspect work on site. Within Northern Ireland, the Building Control function is entirely administered and enforced by the local authority district councils. Building Regulations are national standards which apply to all types of buildings, from major new developments to an extension to your home. They cover all aspects of construction, including foundations, damp-proofing, the overall stability of the building, insulation, energy conservation, ventilation, heating, fire protection and means of escape in case of fire. They also ensure that adequate access and facilities for people with disabilities are provided to buildings. Following planning permission, Building Regulations Applications must be made to the Building Control department of Fermanagh District Council.
Northern Ireland Housing Executive is theregional housing authority whoseprimary responsibilities are to:

regularly examine housing conditions and housing requirements;

draw up wide ranging programmes to meet these needs;

effect the closure, demolition and clearance of unfit houses;

effect the improvement of the condition of the housing stock;

encourage the provision of new houses;

establish housing information and advisory services;

consult with District Councils and the Northern Ireland Housing Council;
- manage its own housing stock in Northern Ireland.
