Fermanagh District Council is a unique local authority in that it covers one entire county in Northern Ireland. County Fermanagh makes up 1/8 of the province’s land mass and the Council represents the largest local government district in geographical terms. This encourages and enables a strategic approach to the planning and delivery of its services, enhancing co-operation with other government agencies and statutory authorities.

Services provided by Fermanagh District Council include Building Control, Environmental Services, Community Development, Waste management, Economic development support.

The Council

There are twenty three (23) elected members of the Council, who are elected from the four local electoral areas:

Erne East..............................6 members

Erne West...............……………….5 members

Erne North............................5 members

Enniskillen.......................…….7 members

Election to the Council is by way of simple majority vote.

Political Composition:

Sinn Féin 9
Ulster Unionist 5
SDLP 5
Democratic Unionist 4

The Councillors meet monthly in full session and more frequently in Standing Committees. They also serve on a number of Sub-Committees and various Working Groups. The Council is managed by the Chief Executive who acts as a principal advisor to the Council and directs its various departments through the management team.
