Leitrim County Council headquarters
Leitrim County Council is one of 29 County Councils in the Republic of Ireland and is responsible for the administrative area of County Leitrim, delivering a wide range of services necessary to the physical, economic, social and cultural life of the county. It provides a range of services to the public. These services include planning, motor tax, housing, water services, road development, community, enterprise and cultural services and many more.
The Council: There are twenty-two (22) elected members of the Council, who are elected from the four local electoral areas:
Ballinamore..............................6 members
Carrick-on-Shannon................. 6 members
Dromahair............................... 5 members
Manorhamilton......................... 5 members
Election to the Council is by way of proportional representation.

The wide range of functions performed by the elected members are called "reserved functions" and these lay down the framework of policy under which the County Manager operates. Reserved functions cover matters of policy and include:

Leitrim County Council is managed by a County Manager and five Directors, each heading up one of five Strategic Policy Committees:
