Leitrim Enterprise Board
According to the Irish Spatial Strategy 2000, the more rural the county, the less its share of all national manufacturing and the more important rural enterprise tends to be within it. Its recommendation is that the nature of the enterprise encouraged to locate in rural areas must be appropriate to those areas in economic, social and environmental terms. It also said that studies show that the supports currently available in terms of grant-assistance and soft supports such as advice, training and mentoring are the most appropriate.
Leitrim County Enterprise Board was established in 1993 by the then Minister for Enterprise and Employment with the aim of filling a gap, which had become apparent in the support services for local enterprises. The Board is part of a nation-wide network of City and County Enterprise Boards, which seeks to stimulate and support the indigenous business development potential in Co. Leitrim with the creation of new, sustainable employment opportunities. The County Enterprise Board represents a partnership between local business, voluntary groups, the social partners (including business and trade union bodies), the state agencies and local elected representatives.
- The Board offers regular training courses and information seminars of relevance to all types of business.
- It can provide you with a mentor who is an experienced business person. They can advise you on management and financial issues and other related issues which affect the running of your business.
Grant-aiding is available for the establishment of small scale economic projects with the central objective of facilitating the creation and maintenance of sustainable jobs and the development of economic infrastructure at local level.
