Scheme: Praeger Fund for Field Natural History

Funding Role: The Fund was set up by the Royal Irish Academy to support field work in Irish natural history. The grants are designed to assist professional and amateur natural historians undertake field work and research that may later be published. Material collected as part of a successful project will also be shown at a recognised national institution in Ireland. Financial assistance is available for field work relevant to the natural history of Ireland.
Budget: Two awards are made annually of €1,270.
Policy: Grants may be used as a contribution to the overall cost of project. Applicants must ensure that the proposed work has not already been carried out in the same geographical area; can be completed in the year in which the grant is funded.

Closing Date: The Fund anticipates the 2006 grant programme to be re-launched in December 2005.
Cross-Border Relevance
As these grants are for individuals, the only relevance is the consideration by a community group of an individual that they would like to encourage applying for funding. Field work that encompasses both sides of the border is eligible for consideration.
