Funding Role: The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon is the Irish government agency for developing the arts. It provides financial assistance to artists, arts organisations, local authorities and others for artistic purposed. It offers advice and information on the arts to Government and to a wide range of individuals and organisations. As an advocate for the arts and artists, the Arts Council undertakes projects and research, often in new and emerging areas of arts practice, and increasingly in co-operation with partner organisations. Its funding from government for 2005 was 61.5 million euro. For 2006 its funding is 72.3 million euro.
Policy: Revenue grants are awarded on an annual basis to arts organisations (i.e arts venues, festivals, production companies and resource and service organisations), as a contribution to their programming and operating costs. Once a year, within a specified timeframe, the Arts Council makes available Revenue grant application forms for the forthcoming calendar year.
Applications: The timeframe for applications is generally September to October each year. See Arts Council website for details (address below) or contact by phone/email the revenue grant unit at the Arts Council. Applications can be made online or in paper format.
