Funding Role: The International Fund for Ireland is a unique organisation established by the British and Irish government in 1986 to promote economic and social advance and to encourage contact, dialogue and reconciliation between nationalist and unionists throughout Ireland.
Policy:The Fund launched its new strategy, “Sharing This Spece”, in January 2006. The new strategy aims to make the Fund more flexible and responsive to the evolving and complex environment in which it works, while retaining its strong focus on reconciliation. From January 2006, programmes will cluster around four key areas of activity, each reflecting a distinct challenge in the immediate future:
Ø Building Foundations for reconciliation in the most marginalised communities.
Ø Building Bridges for contact between divided communities.
Ø Integrating moving towards a more integrated society.
Ø Leaving a Legacy looking ahead to ensure sustainability over the longer term
