Funding Role: The Council's role is to propose policies and priorities for the identification, protection, preservation and enhancement of the national heritage. National Heritage is defined as including monuments, archaeological objects, heritage objects such as art and industrial works, documents and genealogical records, architectural heritage, flora, fauna, wildlife habitats, landscapes, seascapes, wrecks, geology, heritage gardens, parks and inland waterways.
Budget: In 2005, €2.3 million was allocated.
Policy: Applications are invited for imaginative and innovative proposals from organisations and individuals who wish to carry out projects that conserve Ireland's heritage. In 2005 there were 7 grant schemes including; archaeology, architecture research; buildings at risk, local heritage, museums and archives, publications and wildlife. Each scheme has specific criteria which is available in booklet form by post on from the website.
Applications: There are different applications forms for each scheme available. On-line applications will not be accepted.
Closing Date: 2006 Grant Programme will be advertised at the end of September in the national press.
Exclusions: The Council cannot fund projects or publications retrospectively.
Cross-Border Relevance
Groups or individuals must be based in the Republic, but cross-border work can be considered for funding.
