KAG Partnership
Lough Melvin was in the news recently with a major survey of water quality being funded by Interreg. Now, community groups around Lough Melvin in Kinlough, Askill and Garrison, are coming together to participate in the Cross Border Opportunities project.
Although living within walking distance of each other, these groups had never worked with each other before and, once they had ‘found’ each other, they made a commitment to co-operate in the interests of the social and economic development of the area.
This partnership is at present deciding on its aims and objectives and has already identified its central mission, which is to strengthen all communities around Lough Melvin. The KAG Partnership plans its official Launch in November. Anyone interested in becoming involved can contact KAG through the Cross Border Opportunities project.

WILL – WAVES Partnership
It is with great excitement and pride that I announce the formation of our new Cross-Border partnership. The partnership includes two groups, one from Leitrim (Women Independently Living in Leitrim) and the other from Fermanagh (Women Making Waves). Both groups consist of women, with or without a disability.
Our aims are many and varied and are educational and social. We hope to exchange with our group in Fermanagh many talents such as drama, art, music, storytelling and much more and indeed we have no doubt but our Fermanagh friends will contribute their many skills in abundance.
Both groups have elected a committee to do the skills and keep everything in order. L.A.P.W.D. are in association with us to give any help and support needed.
We are very excited at the moment – our partnership has just been awarded Co-operation Ireland funding to hold two residentials so that we can get to know each other better and look at our own perceptions and self-image. We have plans to produce a calendar to show how we would like to be seen and, most of all, to having fun together!

The Kilty Cashel Project
An example of a successful partnership.
Kiltyclogher is a small village (population approx. 250) in Co. Leitrim, north of Manorhamilton and half a mile from the border with Co. Fermanagh. Cashel is the rural area that lies immediately on the northern side of the border in Co. Fermanagh with a population of approximately 340. The area that encompasses Kiltyclogher and Cashel forms a natural unit in spite of the fact that it spans two jurisdictions.
The Kiltyclogher/Cashel Development Company Limited was formed in 2002 with the objective to stimulate economic activity, to enhance the social conditions, to develop jointly cultural activities, to develop new and strengthen existing cross-community relations, and to promote a better understanding between the communities. Strategic Community Development Plans for the area have been devised. The plans take account of all views and needs of the community members.
To date, the project has been involved in over 36 different projects and with over 20 different agencies. They have been successful in securing over €750,000 in additional funding for the area and in completing many diverse projects.
